๐ McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance
Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, all students experiencing homelessness have the right to a free and appropriate public education. Karnes City ISD is committed to identifying and supporting students who qualify under this federal law, ensuring they have full access to academic and support services.
Who Qualifies?
Children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including:

Living in shelters, motels, cars, or campgrounds

Sharing housing due to loss of housing or economic hardship

Living in places not ordinarily used as sleeping accommodations
Services Available:

Immediate school enrollment

School meal benefits

Transportation assistance

Tutoring and academic support

School supplies and clothing assistance

Referrals to community resources
Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth (TEHCY) Support
The Texas Education Agency’s TEHCY program helps families and schools support students experiencing homelessness under the McKinney-Vento Act.
